Leaving a family legacy

Gary Goldberg and family

Gary Goldberg (far R) says that supporting NMDP with a planned gift was a family decision.

Paying it forward is a value Gary Goldberg holds near and dear to his heart. Twenty years ago, Gary signed up to be a on the NMDP Registry when a boy in his community was searching for a match. Unfortunately, that boy did not receive his match, but a year later Gary received the call that he was a perfect match for a 10-year-old boy from Illinois. Gary went on to donate his marrow, ultimately saving the boy's life. "There is nothing like it. I know how important being a match is and what little effort a healthy person can do to save a life. It's a no brainer," Gary says.

After donating marrow, Gary has continued to be a passionate supporter of NMDP. "Sitting on a board isn't what is important to me," Gary says. "I want to connect people to NMDP, whether it is to support an event, raise funds or make an introduction. I want to be a connector."

Recently, Gary and his family made the decision to continue supporting NMDP with a planned gift. When asked why he made this decision, Gary says, "I was doing some financial planning and we were looking at some of the charities that were important to us, and NMDP was at the top of the list. It is important to my family to continue to pay it forward, and this is a great way to create a living legacy long after I am gone."

As a marrow donor, Gary knows firsthand how NMDP saves lives. Giving a planned gift is a simple and impactful way to continue to invest in this life-saving work for years to come.
